Anchor Alarm Privacy Policy
- Arxiflex does not collect, receive or store any of your data. We run no servers for this app.
- Your location, anchor, settings and history are stored only on your phone.
- No accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, no trackers.
- The app connects to the internet only to load map tiles and, if you turn it on, to link two of your own phones (Remote watch). Details below.
- You can switch off all network access with Block Internet in Advanced settings.
1. Who we are
Anchor Alarm is published by Arxiflex LLC (“Arxiflex”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what the Anchor Alarm app for iOS and Android does with information on your phone and on the network.
2. What the app uses, and why
The app asks for the following device features. Each is used on your phone for the purpose shown, and none of it is sent to Arxiflex.
| Feature | Why the app needs it |
|---|---|
| Precise location (GPS), including in the background | To measure how far the boat is from the anchor and sound the alarm. Background access lets monitoring continue while the screen is locked. Your location is read on the device and is never transmitted to Arxiflex. |
| Battery level and charging state | To show the battery on the dashboard and warn you when it is low. |
| Notifications, vibration, audio | To show the monitoring status and to sound, display and vibrate the alarm. On Android this includes a foreground service, full-screen alert and display-over-other-apps permission so an alarm is visible and audible with the phone locked. The app may also ask to be exempt from battery optimization so Android does not stop monitoring. |
| Camera (optional) | Only when you tap to scan a Remote watch code. Images are processed on the device to read the code and are not saved or sent anywhere. You can paste the code instead and never grant camera access. |
| Local network (iOS, optional) | Lets two phones on the same Wi-Fi connect directly during Remote watch. |
| Keep screen awake | Keeps the display on while you are watching monitoring in the foreground. |
3. What is stored on your phone
The app keeps the following in its own storage on your device so it can work and so you can review it later:
- your anchor position and alarm radius, and your settings;
- a history of monitoring sessions: recorded positions (the track), drift readings and alarm events;
- offline map tiles you have downloaded or that came with the app;
- while you use Remote watch, the pairing code and encryption keys for that link;
- a short rolling diagnostic log (up to about 1,000 entries) used to troubleshoot background behaviour. It stays on the phone. It leaves the device only if you choose to copy it from Settings and send it to someone, for example to us for support.
Arxiflex cannot see or access any of this. It is removed when you delete the data in the app or uninstall it.
4. What we collect
Nothing. Anchor Alarm has no user accounts and contains no analytics, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting software. Arxiflex operates no server that the app talks to. Because we do not have your data, we do not sell it, share it or use it for profiling.
5. Network connections
The app makes only the following connections.
Map tiles
When the map needs tiles it downloads them from third-party services: map tiles and styles from OpenFreeMap, and, while the seamark overlay is on, nautical overlay tiles from OpenSeaMap. When you download an area for offline use, tiles for that area are fetched the same way. These services receive your device’s IP address and the coordinates of the tiles requested (which reveal roughly which area of the map you are viewing) and may log them under their own policies. The app does not send your GPS position to them. Place names shown in the app are looked up from a database bundled in the app, with no network request. If you enter your own map style address in Advanced settings, tiles then come from the server you chose.
Remote watch (optional)
Only if you share or follow a watch. See section 6.
Block Internet
The Block Internet setting (Advanced settings) stops the app’s outgoing connections. Maps then use only what is already on the phone, and Remote watch is unavailable.
6. Remote watch
Remote watch lets a second phone follow the boat phone’s anchor watch and raise an alarm there too. It is off unless you tap Share this watch on one phone and scan or paste the code on another.
- What is exchanged. The boat phone sends the anchor position and radius, the boat’s position, the alarm state and the boat phone’s battery level to the following phone. The following phone sends back only connection acknowledgements. It does not send its own location, and it cannot change anything on the boat phone.
- Encrypted end to end. Everything exchanged is encrypted with keys derived from the code shown on the boat phone. Anyone without the code, including the servers below, cannot read it.
- Signaling server. To find each other, the phones use a public signaling service (by default the public PeerJS cloud server,
0.peerjs.com). It sees a random room identifier, the IP addresses of the phones, message sizes and timing, and encrypted messages it cannot read. If the phones cannot connect directly, the encrypted updates may be relayed through it. - STUN server. To work out how to reach each phone, the app contacts Google’s public STUN server (
stun.l.google.com), which sees the phone’s IP address. - The other phone. A direct connection reveals each phone’s IP address to the other, which is how peer-to-peer connections work.
- No storage by us. Nothing is stored by Arxiflex. The third-party services above have their own policies.
- Who can follow. Anyone who has the code can follow your watch until you tap Stop sharing, which discards the keys and ends the link. Share the code only with people you trust.
7. Your control
- Delete recorded sessions in the app’s History tab.
- Withdraw location, notification or camera permission at any time in your phone’s system settings (monitoring needs location to work).
- Use Block Internet to prevent all network connections.
- Uninstalling the app removes all data it stored on the phone.
Since Arxiflex holds no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on our side. If you believe otherwise, or have a question about your rights, contact us below.
8. Children
Anchor Alarm is not directed at children, and because it collects no personal data from anyone, it collects none from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change, we will update this page and the effective date above before the change ships. If the app were ever to collect data, this policy would say so first.
